Fractional Difference - Exploring FSOL song-by-song
Re: Fractional Difference - Exploring FSOL song-by-song
That edit was used as a theme tune to some youth programme on the BBC - it was licensed to the compilation without permission, which is probably why it ended up under a different alias. One of many similar occurrences that led to Brian suing Westside for breach of contract and him ending up with the rights back.
My Global post is a few days away, but you’re not missing much as half the album isn’t even by Brian.

Oh come on Pete, we made the Twitch - Bacteria discovery in 2012, I think.
I remember we all talked about it
You're doin' too much, do less.
Re: Fractional Difference - Exploring FSOL song-by-song
Mate, I can't even remember what I talked about last week, let alone back in 2012
EDIT: You're totally right of course. (and I can't believe this site has been online that long!) viewtopic.php?p=2481&sid=e7a543b7200f72 ... 9710#p2481

The first mention of Bacteria From a Baboon's Stomach was in 2008 - http://fsolnews.blogspot.com/2008/05/24 ... -even.html
There was a thread from the time.

Ah yes, Global. I spent most of these posts wistfully considering what this album could have been like if Brian, John and Gaz had been left to their own devices.

Art Science Technology - A.S.T.
-A.S.T.
-Esus Flow
-Esus Flow (Vast Galaxy Remix)
My main takeaway from re-listening to this today was that, despite the A-side sounding a world away from FSOL, almost all the hallmarks of a FSOL release are there, from Yage and Earthbeat in the credits, to the versions of Esus Flow sounding like Lifeforms material with the Stakker Humanoid beat behind them. It's actually a lot closer to classic FSOL than the next dozen or so 12"s.
Re: Fractional Difference - Exploring FSOL song-by-song
Esus Flow (Vast Galaxy) is crazy huh Like they accidentally opened the Humanoid Snowman Mix set and an Environments set and randomly triggered things from both ! The sax sample is lush, was it a 3d headspace tour set that had something similar (but much longer) - was that by FSOL or sampled from something/someone else ?
Re: Fractional Difference - Exploring FSOL song-by-song
It's a sample, but I have no idea what of. And yeah, it ended up in the 1994 sets, like a lot of the samples on that track. It's such a great track.
Re: Fractional Difference - Exploring FSOL song-by-song
I've never listened to AST before, so this was new to me. Listening to the Galaxy remix is amazing when thinking about how much later stuff appears scattered through it. Thanks for posting, was great to listen and have my ears pricked throughout.
Re: Fractional Difference - Exploring FSOL song-by-song
There are quite a few releases like these that, possibly because they were one-offs and never appeared on the likes of Earthbeat, tend to be largely forgotten. Glad you were able to discover something new!
And here's another:
Yunie - I Can See for Miles
-I Can See for Miles
-I Can See for Miles (Astral Mix)

That's great, love the weirdness of old clip art (this was probably when you literally had to clip it out of a book!)
