Oh wow, 2001! Yes, this is a full on Isness era FSOL track. I agree, I could see some of the Isness tracks just being FSOL if they were released today.

It's kind of weird thinking that tracks like Elysian Feels and Tiny Space Birds started life as FSOL tracks recorded at Earthbeat, ended up as Amorphous, and yet if they were finished nowadays they'd be FSOL once again.

November track is out! Artwork looks very E5 but it seems to have been recorded around the time of the My Kingdom / Yage / Cascade album releases.

It starts and ends very abruptly, almost like it's been randomly cut from a longer jam. Nice piece but feels a bit incomplete.

December's track, 'Years End', is a lovely way to close the album. It's got a weirdly playful, lo-fi vibe that's not really like any other FSOL track I can think of.

Something I've wondered is what effect the Calendar Albums are having on the 'main' releases. Mostly just thinking that, for the most part, E7 and Captures have felt very... I wouldn't say conventional, but maybe not containing many surprises (Rituals did have a few different tracks, admittedly). I wonder if the more experimental pieces have ended up on Calendars, allowing for more streamlined albums. I could be way off here, of course, but many of my favourite FSOL tracks in the past few years have been ones that have really taken me by surprise, and they've almost all been on Calendar Albums - 'Zen Jenny', 'Another Ending', 'Clear Mass 4', '600 o ix', 'Rotter', 'Years End'... I'd honestly be really, really happy if E8 was chock full of tracks like those, just an album of all-out oddness and experimentation.

I'm honestly OK if the calendar albums just become oddities and orphan compilations every year. I'm glad that we get to hear these experiments and tracks that wouldn't find a home otherwise.

Years End is really fun. It sounds like the whole track was recorded through some sort of amp and microphone setup in another room. Great stuff.

I suppose I was more wondering whether these tracks would have found a home on the ‘main’ albums if the Calendars never existed.

Ah, that is a good question. I really don't have an idea if they would or not. Maybe some of the newer tracks? I know some of the tracks in past calendar albums were recorded years ago and were left off of releases so probably not those.

Yeah. I just hope that the more oddball things aren’t being kept aside for Calendars when they’d be great on Environments, basically.

It varies. They usually announce it before the end of Jan.
