I can imagine what has put a lot of people off using the platform (hence lower play count) is Soundcloud's decision to require sign-up/sign-in to listen to anything on there. Thankfully embeds still don't need sign-in but the site itself is ..... "GIVE US YOUR CREDENTIALS!"
