The Future Sound of London’s long and varied history stretches back almost 25 years and as such a vast amount of unrealised material exists in the FSOL Archives.

Archived 8 brings together another 12 such tracks; in some cases these are completed but unreleased songs from that time, in others the songs have been reconstructed or enhanced and then further mixed to form the journey. This album is not just a collection of random off-cuts. It is a fully realised album, worthy of sitting alongside the rest of the band’s critically acclaimed work.

TRACKS:

01 – Sorrow (3:53)
02 – Acturum Esse (4:06)
03 – Blue Green (2:53)
04 – Crawler (3:56)

From the write-up sounds like this is more like an Environments album than a collection of unreleased tracks. I am excited!

I guess since Environment Five became an album of fully new material, that does leave room for the Archives (or Archived ;)) series to develop in that way :)

I've only listened to the first 4 Archive releases (personally I think they're great) - obviously going to have to skip ahead and listen to 8 next!

Where do you know Blue Green from @Ross?

I could of course be completely wrong, but there's a piece with a vocal sample saying "black and blue and green" used on countless 1993 & 1994 ISDN shows.

Environments 6 will feature some older enhanced material, so there's still no absolutely strict separation between the two.

It would be really surprising if Blue Green is that Black & Blue & Green track.

- Black & Blue & Green is/was one of those tracks that we thought was unreleased for a long long time and then found out it was made out of few tracks by other people - hence, it will probably never be released...

(In this case, best to hear on the opening of Kiss 6 / Part 5) - the first 45 seconds are a synthi piece that could be composed by FSOL but it also could be by some band from the Tangerine Dream era (sure sounds like it) and next 55 seconds are the vocal samples over some sparse music, the young lady saying Black & Blue & Green and so on - this track is Delia Derbyshire & Barry Bermange - Dreams (Colours) - (BBC, 1964)

Aye that's from Deliah Derbyshire's Dreams release (the snipped used being from about 45 seconds onwards):

Love the preview track, really can't place the production era - sounds pretty recent

EDIT: oops didn't see there was already a reply !

Looks like the preview track - BRING - isn't on the A8 release at all,
- so I guess it's in the bonus EP:

*Exclusive mp3 download of a three track EP

Yes, the piano and breathing combination really isn't a '90s FSOL sound... reminds me a lot of Elegi actually:

who funnily enough appeared on EBS5.

Blue Green - you could be right of course. Maybe I'm just wishing!

Is there a discussion on here already about the Archives albums? I'm interested to hear what people think of them, which their favourites are, etc.

I can only comment on the first four (well, first three really) as I haven't managed to listen to them all yet.

So if someone can point me to an existing topic, or maybe start one if they're interested? :)

lol "archived 8"

as soon as i saw that I thought....."now THAT's gonna cause an issue!"

yes blue/green - i remember the first time i was listening to a delia album with that track on it. just knew the voice right away and since they were talking colors I just KNEW that she would eventually be muttering the 1-2 lines that FSOL sample. it's cool to recognize a sample like that even before said sample is confirmed =P
