Hahah. :D

(The funniest thing being the idea that Gaz would call Dead Cities their finest work to date)

I totally forgot about that site. It's like The Onion but written by a group of people with zero skill in comedy, I honestly have no idea what the point of the site is !

Amusing, at times unintentionally, as Ross comments, like the comment on Dead Cities - finest work to date signalling a new direction... I guess there was a new direction but not the way they are suggesting.

In fairness they have mostly extracted the future element now. The Rustic Sound Of Somerset? The Cosmic Sound of Normandy? (or wherever the hell Gaz lives now)

Their new acronym would be SOL, as in Shit Outta Luck. LOL

Gaz doesn't live in Normandy, I don't think.

The closest I've come - Gaz lives in the lake district of France - where is that exactly - I don't know - probably in south or south-east of France...

It may be a joke article, but I definitely think it is their best album.

Yes, it gets a (fully deserved) amount of love from fans, it's just the band who have had issues with it. Welcome aboard, by the way!

Thanks!

And I find that strange, considering that half of Teachings From The Electronic Brain is Dead Cities material. Didn't they select the songs for that compilation themselves? "from our point of view, what we consider to be the most long-standing tracks", according to Wikipedia.

The whole move towards the psychedelic Amorphous Androgynous sound was a reaction against Dead Cities. I think at one point, Gaz in particular really didn't like it.

There was an interview in 2006 which seems to have disappeared, in which Gaz explained that Teachings was a chance for him to make peace with Dead Cities... by selecting the tracks on the album he's still fond of, he was able to put them up there with the best FSOL tracks on their "best of". Typically FSOL bizarre way of doing a best of compilation, but there we go.

Seem to remember there was a whole talk about him wanting to move from the 'masculine' to 'feminine' in the sound.
