I was just thinking, it's a shame that FSOL don't release singles anymore - specifically from the Environments series.
The way they did singles in the 90s was amazing. Cascade, Lifeforms, My Kingdom and WHE are just mind-blowingly good and feel like mini albums.
If they had released singles from the Environments albums (and/or Archives albums, if you like), which tracks would you like to have seen given a similar treatment to those Lifeforms and Dead Cities singles?
I'll bypass Environments 1 and I haven't yet listened to Environments 4, but here's my thoughts for 2 and 3:
2: Factories and Assembly, Ice Formed
3: Absolution, The Empty Land, Heart Sick Chord
I feel like Factories and Assembly especially is crying out to be melded into its own mini-album of alternative mixes.
What does everyone else think?

I sure wouldn't mind some singles,
but they don't have a point in the current FSOL strategy of releasing material,
so I doubt something like that would happen...

You're doin' too much, do less.
Re: Environments Singles
Yeah, I'm not expecting that it would ever happen. I suppose the Giant Globular Burst thing is along those lines though (not that I've listened to it yet).
Was just curious which tracks people think would have worked the best in this format

Re: Environments Singles
Factories and Assembly is a good choice, Heart Sick Chord, A Glitch in Cellular Memory. River Delta and Murmurations from 4, I think. Although I'm not sure if any of these lend themselves to singles quite as well as the '90s ones, still.
Globular is... weird. It certainly doesn't play out like a single, nor like an album. It's difficult to place, and that might be why I've listened to it less than maybe it deserves.
It also deserves a physical release.

Re: Environments Singles
"singles" is almost a subjective term it seems
personally i hate having to track something down just to get ONE new track (the b side)
but "singles" with multiple tracks of new material i always invite

Yeah, I'm loving River Delta - I think that could've been amazing, if mixed into a long amalgamation of different takes on the main trackRoss wrote:River Delta and Murmurations from 4, I think.

We did get that RSD 10" from one of the EV albums.
play this backwards and you'll hear evil messages
Re: Environments Singles
That was just Papua New Guinea with Murmurations of Environments 4 as a B-side. Not quite like the old days of multiple paths etc.

True, a single is a single, but an FSOL single, that's something else
