Re: Pande-reviews: 2007.0 (FSOL - A Gigantic Globular Burst.
Then there are a "Rephlex" ZEEBOX vinyl.....hmmm hope 1 day see the light but no happy with idea to bid tons of pounds on auction...
Well in these times, richmen are better collector than all time collects... well maybe 1 day i will a lotto and buy a "Vinyl record machine" and fuck off in all to musical industry
Again great report Mr Pandemonium, 2007 was an explosion on releases for all poeple that waiting for it, love Globular EP, but why don´t put this on Cd or Vinyl ?????

Maybe they're waiting to put it out as a proper 5.1 release on DVD, as was advertised in 2006 - one of so many that never surfaced!
Globular is nice as it's a rare foray into more 'traditional' sounding ambient for the guys. A longform thirty minute piece with no beats is definitely something different for them. Glob I don't like, and never have. Globules is definitely the stand-out on the record, though - in many ways, it's the first 'new' FSOL track since WHE Part 5. Pre-FSOLDigital Brian mentioned to me that some of the solo projects like Part-Sub-Merged would be used as a base for future FSOL work; given that the Polemical album is very much a collection of experiments, Globules is definitely a case of those sounds being used to make a full composition. Overlayed with violin, as would become familiar in the more organic sound of the Environments series, plus Gaz's guitar playing, it's very much a collaborative piece (the solo/duo nature of the other aliases is still unknown) and doesn't draw on old material. In many ways, it's a precursor to the Environments material: Brian's hand-tweaked analogue gear and Gaz's organic instrumentation. A wonderful track, and a shame it exists in semi-obscurity on this niche release.

quite surprised to hear you say that. i loved it the whole thing... it felt to me like an extension of the cascade ep and i can hear the occasional sample from lifeforms (or maybe another release, i can't recall).Pandemonium wrote:

it's one of their weakest works
i had no idea it was a 5.1 experiment, but listening to it again now with that in mind i see what you mean

I definitely think the shortform track of Globular works a lot better than the long form one, listening to it in a space it wasn't intended for. 12-15 minutes is about right for it.

Well you know, it's only weak when you compare it with other monumental FSOL works, if you see it as some electronic release, it's more than fine
- And yes, the Lifeforms flashbacks that you hear are taken/reworked from Eggshell.
- Ross also has a point, this is their first release that can be called beatless. (they had shorter tracks/interludes/segues/environments that are beatless but nothing this big) - I don't mind beatless FSOL but this whole surround sound stuff doesn't work for me ...
