I think I can contribute one new sample to Lifeforms and Cascade. In the opening of Cascade, a snippet I believe is taken and looped from Spacetime Continuum's track "Subway." Mixmaster Morris made the observation at least long ago in a California zine I used to write for:

Another problem that I see is that Cascade is about a year older than Subway...

Yes, Cascade dates from early 1993, so I doubt it samples this
(Also, sample discussion should be kept to the Sample Library forum if possible!)

I can kinda hear the similarity - I've guessing it'd probably they both have EMS VCS synths (If I'm listening to the correct part!)

A little known fact is that the FSOL alias appeared for the FIRST TIME EVER on a remix track, right here on this breaks/house single from Loleatta Holloway.

We have another FIRST here, the first appearance of FSOL as producers.

I just noticed today that this is actually incorrect - FSOL first appears as a name before both of these, on the So This is Love 12". I'd never spotted this before myself...

And who the hell are Herd & White?? To tell you the truth, listening to these mixes today (including the fact that we have no info whatsoever of these guys 7+ years later) I'm starting to think that these mixes were actually done by FSOL. Something like a trial run of acid for the forthcoming Humanoid - Your Body Robotic release.

Unlikely - listening to this release for the first time in ages and noticed that it doesn't even sample the original track, it uses the remix kit that Future Music made. So there's effectively no actual FSOL on the track.

15 - Deja Boo [3:31] - (1991)
- A weird amalgam of looped acoustic guitar sections with breaks and trance. Another pre-Accelerator era, maybe re-polished from the old (1990-1991) aliases like Yunie or Candese.

I think this features the same UFOrb samples as Metropolis, so that places it as mid-1992, bizarrely.

Also listening to these today, I noticed that 'Journey to the Center' features the Yage flute sample. How I'd not spotted that in the last 10 years I'll never know.

A few notes revisiting this:

02 - Plasmatik (4:04) (1993)
- Not to be confused with Plasma, the unreleased piece that appears on the Kiss Test 2 transmission from 1992.
- Punishing 4/4 beat to begin with, this track discovers lots of layers as it goes on. It's a hard one to place, sounding like ISDN era and at the same time having elements of Lifeforms, and these two albums had overlapping sessions. I'd place it in late 1993, as a weird Lifeforms leftover that was maybe planned for the ISDN album but didn't make it there either (because of the bright sections).

Just realised I never pointed out that this track also bears the working title 'Lifeforms Album Variant', which gives an idea of where and when it's from.

07 - Shingles (4:53) (1992)
- This is the bastard track on this release, but a beautiful bastard it is. It's a transition piece from the beat pieces of 1992 to the hybrid pieces of Ephidrena and ultimately the Lifeforms structures. It has the beat of 1992, the opening flutes that hint Cascade/Lifeforms and occasional acid loops that hint Ephidrena. A truly interesting piece.

Interestingly, originally planned for inclusion on Lifeforms.
