Re: What are you listening to?
It hasn't quite hit me as much as Rhythm of Snow and Rigning have (particularly the latter), but there's some really wonderful stuff on there.
np Secede - Bye Bye Gridlock Traffic
How I wish I had this one on CD.

Which one ? there are at least 3 different ones
Plaid - goes with that without saying

Re: What are you listening to?
Plaid definitely fall into the 'stuff I really don't get' territory, absolutely no idea what's going on there.
Now playing... Spheruleus - Forgotten Outland. Incredibly beautiful acoustic-based ambient stuff, brilliant.

not really sure what you mean here?
i do understand that 2/3 of black dog ended up forming plaid.....but what i've been listening to is a youtube mix of a 100 videos of "the black dog" or "black dog productions".
really there is only 1 black dog, no?
i understand there were lineup changes but it's not like one would say exactly "which orb?" when mentioning you're listening to the orb
or maybe i know nothing about black dog....that surely can be true as well

from black dog sheffield uk i love this set
The Black Dog – FACT Mix 144 - The Black Dog (Apr '10)
start with a great remix from a band that i cant remember in this moment but the bits added by Black Dog were simply Incredible.

The Black Dog (Ken Downie, Ed Handley, Andy Turner) - 1989-1996 - the original Black Dog
Black Dog Productions (Ken Downie, Ed Handley, Andy Turner) - 1991-1993 - side project that kick-started Plaid
Plaid (Andy Turner, Ed Handley) - 1991-present
The Black Dog (Ken Downie) - 1997-2007 the grey period, some rare recordings here and there, and some solo writing by Ken, also experimenting with various potential members
The Black Dog (Ken Downie, Martin Dust, Richard Dust) - 2008-present I was skeptical about this one at first but they are doing fine Music For Real Airports is a fine, fine tribute to Eno.

Re: What are you listening to?
Have to agree, never really got into them. Maybe just a bit too minimalistic and "elektro" for my taste. I do have the Tekkonkinkreet soundtrack, which has a few tracks I really like. Apart from that.. not much.Ross wrote:Plaid definitely fall into the 'stuff I really don't get' territory, absolutely no idea what's going on there.
Lately been listening to several new dark ambient releases, some less known shoegaze bands and some older favorites. And the EBS7 mix. Haven't been all that blown away by anything lately.

Re: What are you listening to?
drum'n'bass anyone?
from the newer guys, I really like Phace - on the later releases, he has a new level of production,
very dark/strong bass, with very strong neurofunk lines and ammbience in the backgorund that reminds me of FSOL
this release for example: Phace & Misanthrop / Phace & Noisia – Desert Orgy / Stagger (12")
and this album is the shit: Phace + Misanthrop – From Deep Space

Re: What are you listening to?
D&B used to one of my biggest loves.. stuff like early Goldie, Boymerang (lesser known), Arcon 2 (of course), 4Hero. Nowadays the whole scene is overrun by this crappy dubstep and the soul and depth is mostly long gone.
There are still some people making good, deep, DEEP tunes like Seba & Paradox, but they tend to use the same breaks and ideas over and over. I seriously wish there were still people like Leon Mar (Arcon 2) making anything REMOTELY as psychedelic as it used to be.
Maybe the times have changed and it simply isn't that fresh anymore. Dunno.

This thread is making me want to get my Photek stuff out. Modus Operandi is one of my favourite records. If only my CDs weren't 200 miles away...
