The Future Sound of London - Dead Cities [album] (18-28.10.1996)
Herd Killing (at 0:16) samples the opening of Nierika by Dead Can Dance (4AD, 1996) - this album came out only 4 months before Dead Cities! (possible hoax sample??)

Massive (nitpicky, probably totally useless) bump for the Dead Cities review.

I don't think FSOL sampled Nierika. This sample appears to have been used by Culture Beat in 1993, in their hit song Mr. Vain:

HHMMM ...same sampled was used from Prodigy on "The Jilted Generation " track - Skylined, in the intro of song:

Then I guess it was one of those early 90s CD full with samples and drum lines that lots of bands used...

Or someone maybe knows the real origin of this sample?

Wonder if it's a preset on a synth ? I think back then they used the Roland W-30 & Korg Prophecy

It's likely from a sample library or sample CD from the era. I've also heard that the sample was from an episode of The X-files, but even in that case it was probably a stock sample or preset used by Mark Snow while making the soundtrack. By the way, er um? Shouldn't we be discussing this elsewhere?

- Didn't find much new really, if anything I found more unknown tracks

- But I found tons of movie samples, and some of them amazed me... One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest / THX 1138 / Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome / The Last of the Mohicans...

- Found a bunch of tracks, and a few new unknown ones...

- lots of movie samples again. Silent Running and Apocalypse Now are sampled at least a dozen times each (different samples from the movies) - which is kinda crazy... found out that the unreleased FSOL track that we called Who The Hell Asked You? is actually a mix of Silent Running samples and Environments 1 piano parts.

Found the right tracks from the spoken samples of Bernstein too.

- Atom Heart – Pure Function (1993) - the little girl mumbling finally falls in place in all those mixes...
- Depth Charge - Silver Dub (1991) - how about that?
- Cabaret Voltaire - Belly of The Beast (Back in Babylon) (1993) - one of my new all time favorite tracks!
- DJ Food - Ninja Walk (1992) - so they knew of him even back then... making awesome remixes together 20+ years later...
- Hubert Parry - I Was Glad (Psalm 122), anthem for chorus & organ (or orchestra) (composed in 1902) - another classic weaved in the mix...

- Another unreleased piece, from the answerphones sessions...
- If the vocals are just sliced samples form the answerphone machine, and the background seems sampled from The Irresistible Force - Flying High, then technically this track doesn't exist (hence, it's still unreleased) - or does it..?

- The Future Sound of London - Off The Net - (unreleased) - so this one probably also doesn't exist as a track... Maybe they named it because they forgot where the sample was taken from, or they planned to develop an environment around it...
