Re: RIP H.R. Giger
Sad news, a truly iconic artist of our time. Quite odd as a person from what I read, but a brilliant artist.
A lot of his work was mostly done by airbrushing. Anyone who has attempted airbrushing will tell you, it's nightmarishly difficult to make anything look even remotely okay. His works were visually stunning and highly original.

A genius no doubt, and for me personally one of the Holy Trinity together with Salvador Dalí and the great Zdzisław Beksiński who I must admit is my most favorite artist of all.

Re: RIP H.R. Giger
The part the made me mad - is that he wasn't that old or ill,
but he just fell down the stairs at home, injured himself and died...
Another proof that there is no justice in this world...

How come Tool seedy? I think Tool's artwork comes from Alex Grey.

Yeah Adam Jones, Tool's guitarist, does all their music videos. He did sculpting and set design work for Terminator 2, Jurassic Park and Ghostbusters 2 before joining or during the early years of Tool, wicked talented, but no doubts at all that he was heavily inspired by Giger!
Re: RIP H.R. Giger
We are hijacking Giger's area but since it has to do with art anyway, in the memory of Giger let me add that Jones (definitely driven by his passion of their work and as a big fan of theirs) copied the technique that Brothers Quay developed with the years of hard work, and incorporated this style to the videos he made for TOOL, its enough to see Sober and Prison Sex to understand that. I myself didnt know that for many years and when accidentally I read that somewhere and watched their masterpiece Street of Crocodiles, I was literally in shock:

Re: RIP H.R. Giger
Saw a short film yesterday about Giger with some Interview (actually he alone talks nearly all the time) from 2005, where you could notice, apart from his obvious odness as a physical appearance, what an incredibly nice and kind person he was. He walked around his castle in the swiss mountains looking a bit like Dracula from the Coppola-movie talking about his art, his works for various films and that he would like to turn his castle into a kind of a haunted-house-style roller coaster ride with alien interieur and sculptures and everything, but unfortunately he's lacking the 3 million bucks that would cost...
