Pre-show warm up: various noises and effects, some spoken samples.
Ok, so I think this is what we got:
Opening noises... same as one of the early EBS mixes.
Answerphone messages (of course).
Heogen remix - melodic IDM stuff, as expected, lovely.
More answerphones.
MⒶ - Brian and Martin? More melodic IDM.
Backwards voices, field recordings, answerphones.
Inkipak remix - continues in the same vein as the previous ones. The focus on remixes gives these Mind Maps shows a really different feel to other FSOL/FSOLDigital releases.
Could you leave the lights alone please? Stop flashing the fucking lights.
FSOL - This sounds familiar, maybe a calendar track? Or similar to something that's been released. Maybe on an earlier mix? Hmm.
Answerphones, including one from Robert Fripp, whose car has broken down.
Soutien Gorge remix - slow chunky groove with some Lifeforms sounds in the background, very Rituals, maybe a touch more uplifting with happy melodies in the second half.
Weird screaming noises. Mixmag answerphone message. "Aphex is up for it."
Skurken remix - slower IDM stuff here, breaks down to craziness midway through.
Gurgly noises, guitar notes, quiet spoken voices.
Enofa - Obscure Diagram (Yage Rmx) - my track given a bit of a hectic makeover, the original is quite sparse but this is pretty danceable.
More answerphones.
Min-Y-Llan ft Melatron - Crash (Yage Rmx) - glitchy beats and whispered vocals, more complex beats, disorienting synth pads, eerie stuff.
More answerphones.
FSOL - slow, IDMish, bloopy melodies. Some slow breakbeats in the second half, slowed down samples, getting more complex and turning into a weird digital mush.
Weird noises, a field recording from something that I can't remember... annoying. Acoustic guitars, water sounds. "Wind, water, fire... I am the daughter of elements".
Mole Jeek remix - slow, murky, more Rituals style.
Backwards piano, synths, voices. Sample that's used on Environments 1, 2, 3 and 6.5. More answerphones.
FSOL - beautiful piano, building up into a crescendo of synths and sounds, strings, first beatless track on the mix so far.
Humanoid - 85-92/Analogue Bubblebath-era Aphex style updated with modern (non-acid) Humanoid production. A stunner.
Yage - acoustic guitar loops and answerphones.
Moshonsensu remix - fast, percussive track, brooding synths.
BDog - funky bass, breaks, wah guitars, huge change from the rest of the mix but works well.
Answerphones.
Heogen remix - more gorgeous synths, much slower this time, beautiful track.
Liz Fraser answerphone.
Riz Maslen remix - choral and piano, incredible end to the mix.
So it's very much in big polished melodic IDM territory again, in the same vein as the previous mixes.
Bonus minute mix:
Chunky chunky beats, hip-hop territory oh wait no it's IDM again. 303 acid at the end. This really isn't like anything I've heard from FSOL before. e7.003 material.
Beautiful downtempo track, very '90s ambient house blissful vibe. Too short!
You know the way everybody's into weirdness right now...
And so it was all over... I did not know then how much was ended...
'70s analogue Ghost Box style track.
Fast funky breaks track.
Max Richter answerphone message.
Something technoey, four-to-the-floor beats. Acid! This has got to be Humanoid.
Drones, answerphone messages.
Bleepy analogue, childlike melodies, hauntological... but then pads, string samples, getting more epic. Stunning. More e7.003 material! This album isn't going to be anything like past releases.
