sitting on my HD waiting to be mixed :P

oh it'll still be longer as i'm about to lose my free time for the month again
but the point is to my own elation i'm finally f'n done composing.
no more notes or tweaks to add - no more sounds to create or search for
22 minutes of everything i had to say there

now i can focus on compression, eq, panning
you know....all the stuff i have little clue about

well i got a hurdle out of my personal life that's allowing me some attention to my tune again finally :)

i'm all EQ'd, compressed, panned and now have to deal with the side effects of all that fiddling
levels are now off so i need to tweak here and there. need to burn to CD and test on the big speakers....get a better sense of the panning i did.

from there.....do what i can about mono capability....i have a bass instrument that still doesn't sound good enough to me
couple of other flourishes here and there

surely getting closer!
i took 3 days off in the upcoming week so hopefully the wife will allow me some good attention to it.
ideally by this time next week i'll be figuring out what mild mastering measures i'm going to attempt

what a labor of love
i'm SO looking forward to this beast being done and just starting as fresh as can be with a new PC and new material to work on!

getting so dang close
other than just combing through my levels to make sure all of the details can still be heard - i'm stuck on a synth bass and somewhat on a kick

the kick i can live with though it just doesn't punch like i would want it to

the bass though has been my nemesis for awhile now. normal people would probably pick a new patch but i'm too stubborn and really don't want to be searching at this point. so i'm committed to forcing it to work lol
more than anything i would like it to have a smooth sub line to it but when i leave things as is it just sounds too muddy.
it's sounding better as i HPF the mud away but it's just not as deep. i've tried some plugins that help with this kind of stuff but they sound equally muddy

well either way....very very close to being doing with the mix and then i can look to the final stage of doing some light mastering to it
really exciting just to get this one out of my life and use all of my education and experience towards a better sounding next tune!

Aye that'll do it - seems like a relatively recent mixing 'trick' that appears to be doing more harm than good -

i'm not sure his points sunk in with me especially from the angle of using mics etc. because i don't

interesting what he's saying about a spike around the frequency cutoff though
i do have many tracks filtered at the same number :-/

ugh well i took a step back with this bish

kind of got a hold on the boomy bass but i think i now need to go back and adjust the slope and freq of all of my HPF'd tracks

beyond that it seems that Waves MaxxBass is helping me get more punch out of my bass without adding a ton of sub
i may still add a low sine wave line beneath it all we'll see how that plays out

i'm listening on my laptop right now at work and can hear that i need to add some maxxbass to my kick and the earlier bass sound as well

so...hopefully at least i'm on the right path and there will be no more roadblocks

i'm goddamn sick of this :)
