If you like to steal samples for your own tunes - how do you isolate just what you want?
in my case i want just a vocal snippet
i can cut the wav and there it is but i also have a drum beat and a bit of synth from the tune i'm taking it from

what do you use to take just that vocal and cut everything else out?
i'm reading about phase cancellation, stereo imaging, and all that good stuff but curious what yall would do

You cannot isolate stuff out of recordings. Only thing you can basically do is to use an EQ and filters and filter out unwanted frequencies. Sometimes that's enough, sometimes not. Sometimes cutting out stereo information will help.

You cannot simply just "isolate" stuff because it's already a "printed" soundwave so there are no individual parts left. Understand?

That may work on simple tonal material like removing that flute, but extracting complex instruments off the track is something very different. I won't believe it until i hear it. It's been tried before and it's almost impossible because the frequencies overlap constantly.

well yes i do understand that isolating completely is near impossible, but you get the idea

i haven't watched this video yet but i'm excited to see what it beholds given what i know about izotope IRIS :)

you figure that many times a sample only needs to be "good enough" since often you have other sounds going on at the same time to help mask anything else

funny thing is that the two samples i was trying to do when creating this thread i had realized are actually samples themselves.
SO....i found the source that they were sampled from and my job is pretty easy from there :P

pretty sure i won't be that lucky going forward though lol

whelp after last night my first tune here is a SOLID 12 minutes
like 99% complete with the exception of post production and mixing stuff
this takes me to a midpoint transition however.....prolly another 8 minutes to go ha whoops! ;p

all said when i listen i tell myself "this just sounds amateur".
there are moments where it sounds really awesome (and pro)....but they are fleeting and to me the general tone is just not up to commercial standard

either way it's a labor of love that i can't wait to share
more than anything i'm just going to love that when this is done i'll be able to speak to my friends in a new way
no level of slick production will change the message of my tune and my musical ethos that will be shown

ugh this takes so damn long....partially because of my noob status obvs but ....i'm programming my own drums notes for note and it is some tedious and often miserable stuff. my next tune needs to have less complexity if only to have a breather from this hard work lol.

Speaking of samples, and not wanting to create a new thread -

What are some of your favourite resources for free sample packs?

Or which are your favourite commercial ones?
