Middlemarch is a modern classical/ambient project by Ross Baker and Dimitris A. (better known as Five Minutes Alone/dubmasta). We've been collaborating on a series of pieces over the last seven months and have pieced together an album of haunting elegies to a time long past.

The album is called Wolf Hall, and is inspired (on my part, at least) by the books Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies by Hilary Mantel. The record was pieced together via internet collaboration by Dimitris (piano) and Ross (electronics, tape). It is due for release on Time Released Sound in early 2014. Nine tracks, 52 minutes.

Available from Time Released Sound

After much deliberation we're happy to announce the album will finally be out in July or August this year on Time Released Sound. Some changes have been made (it now runs to eight tracks instead of nine), but hopefully an EP of related pieces will follow the album at some point. There will be a deluxe edition CD version (details to follow), followed by a standard release in digipak. Clips to follow shortly. :)

For TRS045 we are very pleased to bring you this full length album from Middlemarch... aka Dimitris Avramidis/piano and Ross Baker/electronics. A beautiful melange of melodic and atmospheric, pastorally infused and electronically treated and overlaid piano ambiance, that is inspired in part by the novel Wolf Hall, by Hilary Mantel.

This dreamy moody soundtrack to the lives of those that lived, breathed and conspired in Tudor England, comes packaged in the form of a mounted, original 8” x “10 collage, each in a fold out, stand up sleeve. Each slightly differently sized collage is made from the full page photos of an 80 year old book on early tudor architecture, and is collaged ala Max Ernst with vintage prints of birds, animals, and other slightly surreal elements... they are of course all uniquely stamped/marked/treated with the usually attempted TRS flair! Hanging from the back of the display folder is the factory pressed disc in a collaged envelope. The whole display package comes in a large, hand assembled and string tied envelope made from deluxe, hand screen printed wallpaper. Extremely evocative!

This is the standard digipak version in an edition of 150 copies, there is also a deluxe version available in an edition of 84 copies.

We are both stupidly excited about this. Absolutely one of the best things I've ever worked on.

Listen to clips of all eight tracks on Juno. And it seems Juno have the digipak version available to order, too.
