Elysium

Post by kornbean »

Is anyone going to see this movie? I think I might. It comes out tomorrow here in the US. I enjoyed Blomkamp's previous film, District 9, so I have some faith in it. I'm a little worried about it losing some genuineness by aiming to be a blockbuster, what with the casting of Matt Damon and Jodie Foster, but hopefully the creative minds can escape this.

District 9 was a unique experience, a new kind of making films from more than one aspect...

This one will not be all that because it's Hollywood, but still might be an excellent sci-fi movie.

Quite curious about this. District 9 surpassed my expectations - I was expecting quite enjoyable, and it was really incredible - so I'm sure there'll be something worthwhile here.

Wait, what was different about District 9? It started off good enough but descended into standard explosions and heartstring-tugging genre by the middle. If they could have kept up with the satire/social commentary from the beginning. How was it a new kind of film making?

billybats it's too long for explaining - google it :)

All I know is all my favorite directors love it and teach it on the film-students whenever they can.
It's one of only four movies from that decade that is thought in film schools in Europe and USA.

I did, at Cineplexx - it was very good.

I think it's an excellent movie, but still, not better than District 9.

It was OK, nothing that memorable but still OK.

It has some proper hidden social commentary (like District 9 had), the clean, closed world for the elite. Definitely not a big fan of Jodie Foster for some reason (although Silence Of The Lambs is quite brilliant of course), but luckily she didn't ruin the movie completely. The mercenary boss guy was a pretty funny character IMO, i don't know why :D

It's quite sad to see that we're moving into similar direction a bit IRL.

It was Oblivion-level garbage. Felt no connection with any character. And I am the kind of pudgy-hearted putz who fell for Sandra Bullock's back story in Gravity!
