well i sure f'n hope so!

no clue what to expect.
i just saw sabbath one day on TV from a few years ago and was like fvck ozzie still has it - i need to see this before it's too late!
anyway hopefully not too many tunes from that reunion album....i just want the classics!

also going to see dave gilmour in april (though i have seen him once before)

and on the topic of geezers.......i'm definitely going to see paul mccartney the next chance i get. not really sure why i've put that off for so many years !

Enjoy. I'm going to see Steven Wilson in a couple of weeks, which should be good.

i wouldn't know what to expect with that - what is his solo stuff like compared to PT?

also - if you don't have the PT album METANOIA def track that one down. it's all instrumental and quite good!

I've got all the PT albums and SW's solo stuff ;)

His solo stuff isn't all that different from PT - maybe a bit self-indulgent and over the top at times, but still really good stuff. He has a new album (a mini album of finished ideas that were left off previous albums) coming out next week.

Sounds like he'll be playing some stuff from that plus the last album in full and some older stuff, so it should be a good show :)

Seen him live once before and he was really good.

SW is genius at producing/remastering a hell lot of various 70ies progrock classics in the recent years, I got a couple of them, he did a fantastic job remastering both Jethro Tulls "Thick as a Brick"/"A Passion Play" for instance, no loudness war, just very subtle, quiet with every instrument clearly audible without taking away the original character of the album, no doubt the man knows what he's doing :)

yeah i have plenty of his work on king crimson ;)

just the PT i've heard is perhaps dare i say too pop?
idk....my exposure is limited but what i've heard i just couldn't get into the vocals and more standardized type song structures.
i thought PT would be way more prog sounding before i ever listened to them so perhaps that has skewed my perception

PT are pretty prog. Try The Sky Moves Sideways or Deadwing. Metanoia is actually an album of improvisations that led to the album Signify.

I think his solo stuff is more proggy, so you might actually prefer that. Check out The Raven That Refused To Sing.

Sorry, feel like I've hijacked this thread now!

I was pretty much into PT some years ago, I especially liked their poppier albums like Stupid Dream & Lightbulb Sun. I lost it a bit after Deadwing, never heard anything of the SW solo stuff. Maybe I should, his albums get hailed here all around as masterpieces of "new prog" in various magazines & websites.

To me PT always seemed like the hardrock version of "Animals"-Era Pink Floyd.

Yeah, I would consider them a mix of alternative rock and prog rock. The amount of each varies with each album.

Seedy, I should also say - have you heard I.E.M. (Incredible Expanding Mindfuck)? A Steven Wilson project around the late 90s, cool instrumental music - if you like Metanoia, those albums might be worth checking out.

yeah knowing that about metanoia the next album i tried was signify and i thought the differences were pretty stark
i've listened to maybe one other album besides those two

i will try those listed albums - i never really sought out specific recs and thought i could jump into them based on reputation alone
i might be better off starting with more the styles i'm into....then it's easier to branch out from there ;)
