I get to see Robert Rich perform live in April. This is probably his last solo tour ever and my first time seeing him live so I am beyond excited for this.

From what I heard, the driving around the country alone thing has been taxing for him so he might not do it again after this tour.

Anyway, I'll be going to the Marshfield MA show on this tour.

saw this gig btw :)

and i wanted to see it SO bad that i drove 1.5 hours to go see the gig solo!
hardly ever happens but that was my only option

great show very intimate in a church

he was right there to talk to everyone and he allowed us on stage to check out his rig
amazed to learn that the flutes he plays are PVC!!!
they sound really nice too

sadly the reason he's going to stop touring is because his wife is developing parkinsons :(

glad i got the chance to see him
steve roach is playing the same place in a few months
roach can be a bit hit or miss for me but i think his live gigs are generally more of the style i prefer from him

did you see this show offland?
i forget when the MA gig was happening in relation to mine

Oh yeah, the MA gig happened earlier in the week. Also in a church! It was exactly what you described. I also drove almost an hour to see the gig solo but well worth it. His flutes are amazing.

Picked up a copy of Filaments. Looking forward to giving it a spin soon.

filaments is great
i really just love everything he does at this point
i mean....i get a little lost in the sominum releases but i think that's the point ;)

as i said to him i really wish i knew more of wth he was doing up there
i can understand all of that to a degree on a laptop which he does use but he obvs is doing a lot on analog synths as well and i just can't tell what is what.

i noticed on one synth he had a number of triangle pieces sitting on the top
i overheard the dudes next to me talking about them and they said they were weights to hold a key(s) down and create a drone etc.
thought that was pretty cool
i hope he tours again some day!

All of his latest ambient productions are fucking fantastic (not a fan of his tribal stuff), just keeps getting better and better.. legend.

I spoke to some dude on Gearslutz a while ago, Rich apparently invited him and his friend to his studio to show a bit how he makes his stuff, mixing and mastering tricks and tips etc. Obviously his a pretty down to earth guy.

"Music From Atlas Dei" and "Nest" are pretty close to a perfect ambient album IMO. I'd love to see him collaborating with some great beatsmith and see how that would turn out.. ;)
from the source flows the endless...

interesting you don't like the tribal stuff as much - any reason?
i'm quite fond myself

man....what you described is exactly something i've been dreaming about lately. i think rich even made an album or two in my area a few years ago. just that idea - let me be your shadow and just watch how things are done.
pretty sure rich is currently in california these days so that rules him out for that consideration.
the only person i know of pretty close to me is bill laswell but i've yet to find a way to contact him directly. go figure =P
