DJ Food - The Search Engine (2012), inspired by the remix thread.

Listening right now, pretty good, very different from his (their?) previous work that I've heard. Also the newest Papercutz album! What a find! Could be the best album this year so far.

My find of the year is Causa Sui. If you like psychedelic rock of an instrumental nature then you might just find them astonishing.

Beyond that, yesterday I was mostly listening to Terminal Window 2, Another Setting Sun by Ross, and attempting to wade through Rontxo's music output for 2012 thus far. Really enjoyable so far (having listened to and really liked ADSL and Day 1), makes Ross - not to mention Edgar Froese - look like they've got writer's block...

Things will be going very quiet from me in a few weeks, there's a short EP and the Blackbirds' Revenge tape finally, but then I actually won't have anything even started...

Actually, while I'm here, recently on repeat lots:

Talk Talk - Spirit of Eden, Laughing Stock
Mark Hollis - Mark Hollis
Bark Psychosis - Hex
Underworld - Riverrun series
Tangerine Dream - Stratosfear, Force Majeure
The Shadows - Various tracks
Ross Baker - Revolution 3

Orbital - Wonky

its lame... barely average... expected a lot more...
the dubstep tracks are stupid... There are a few old-skool moments, but that is it...

It's fucking horrific, isn't it? Beelzebeat and Wonky successfully topple Illuminate in the 'worst Orbital track' category, and the rest of it is about the same quality as your run of the mill netlabel release, ie some kid who's spent six months with Reason. The only thing I like are the acid bits in Stringy Acid - which come from a demo tape they recorded in 89/90 - says a lot.

Orbital - Wonky: some nice old school beats, but nothing special as a whole.

During these last days...

FSOL - Environments 2
Ben Woods – Nymh: Realms Of Detachment
Loscil – Endless Falls
Prefuse 73 – Vocal Studies + Uprock Narratives (have loved this for ages)
Clams Casino – Instrumentals
Pat Metheny – Bright Size Life

Also went to Athens to see Pleq saturday live, fuckkkk, i was broken...

Dubstep is like any other genre, 90% crap and 10% very good stuff :)
You just have to dig through the crap and shift+delete it - then you get some good stuff :)

I have that Phaeleh album and it has a few good songs, but it's more like IDM and electronic music in general IMO than dubstep. I guess I'm just moving into whole another direction. Actually, most bands I listen to are organic.

Real dub, now that I like. I never really understood what dubstep has to do with actual dub music.

exactly, me neither. the first time i heard the word 'dubstep' i thought it was a subgenre of dub which i love. when i heard what dubstep was, it made me sick so i turned it off right away. I think its the only electronica genre that i truly dislike. To be honest, in some tracks, subtle dubstep hints are great, but id rather listen to breakcore instead of pure dubstep crap.
Pandemonium wrote:Dubstep is like any other genre, 90% crap and 10% very good stuff
Totally disagree, there is a lot of shitty music out there, but 90% is too much. Its like saying that most music that comes out is total crap, i woudnt say so man.

Used to listen to dub a lot years back. Simply adore Rhythm & Sound, best dub ever...
