Hey man, welcome to the Board :)

- The 12 hour Kiss FM mix doesn't exist - the radio station mixed together a few of the Kiss broadcasts that FSOL did in 1992/1993.

The main track on that chunk you posted is Trancesetters - Fantasizing ( )

the dates of the original mixes are: (and links to the detailed tracklists)

FSOL - Kiss 100 FM Test Transmission 1 [radio mix] (14.09.1992) ( http://www.ilovecubus.co.uk/fsolboard/v ... t=45#p3823 )
FSOL - Kiss 100 FM Test Transmission 2 [radio mix] (xx.10.1992) ( http://www.ilovecubus.co.uk/fsolboard/v ... t=45#p3847 )
FSOL - Kiss 100 FM Transmission 1 [radio mix] (26.12.1992) ( http://www.ilovecubus.co.uk/fsolboard/v ... t=60#p3875 )
FSOL - Kiss 100 FM Transmission 2 [radio mix] (19.05.1993) ( http://www.ilovecubus.co.uk/fsolboard/v ... t=60#p3904 )
FSOL - Kiss 100 FM Transmission 3 [radio mix] (04.11.1993) ( http://www.ilovecubus.co.uk/fsolboard/v ... t=75#p4006 )
FSOL - Kiss 100 FM Transmission 4 [radio mix] (11.11.1993) ( http://www.ilovecubus.co.uk/fsolboard/v ... t=90#p4019 )
FSOL - Kiss 100 FM Transmission 5 [radio mix] (18.11.1993) ( http://www.ilovecubus.co.uk/fsolboard/v ... t=90#p4058 )
FSOL - Kiss 100 FM Transmission 6 [radio mix] (25.11.1993) ( http://www.ilovecubus.co.uk/fsolboard/v ... t=90#p4063 )
You're doin' too much, do less.

Hello again everyone. Little bit stumped by this mystery here:

It's supposedly a short snippet from the 12-hour Kiss mix from 1995, which was a bunch of 1993 Kiss transmissions stitched together. The tracks included are Vertical Pig >> 13th Century Kitichi environment >> Swab >> Mountain Goat. Only thing is, I don't remember FSOL ever playing Swab in their Kiss mixes, or indeed in any of their 90s transmissions. So where is this snippet from??

The mixing sounds authentic enough - there's even a sample of HAL 9000. Maybe Kiss FM had an unbroadcast transmission that they spliced up into the 12-hour mix later on? Not sure how else to explain this one.

I ended up going through the 12-hour Kiss mix to check what else was on there. The copy I downloaded from Soulseek was in 23 parts (all 30 min each except the last, which was an hour long) so I'll write it down in order and bold all the important bits. I've also swapped the names of Kiss 2 and 4, to follow with bootlegs and Fractional Difference.
  • Part 1 = Kiss 5 Part 4
  • Part 2 = Kiss 5 Part 4 continued + Kiss 5 Part 5 (middle tracks edited out) + first 10 min of Kiss 1 Part 4
  • Part 3 = Kiss 1 Part 4 continued + snippet of Kiss 5 Part 3 ("You will awake now" and Song of Danijar) + later part of Kiss 1 Part 1 from 23:50 onward (ending with Yage and Cyberface)
  • Part 4 = Test Transmission 1 Part 4 + Test Transmission 1 Part 5 (Yage/Cyberface dialogue, Natural Thing) + first 19 min of Kiss 4 Part 4
  • Part 5 = Kiss 4 Part 4 continued + Kiss 6 Part 1
  • Part 6 = Kiss 6 Part 1 continued + new section of FSOL tracks: Vert Pig Environ >> Dead Skin Cells outro >> Spineless Jelly >> Interstat >> Cascade Shortform and Vit Environ (like the 1993 Essential Mix) >> Vit >> Unknown Environ >> Vertical Pig + the last 2 min cuts to Kiss 2 Part 4 (Among Myselves Environ + Theme from Clockwork Orange)
  • Part 7 = excerpt from Kiss 2 Part 3 + first 10 min of Kiss 2 Part 4
  • Part 8 = Kiss 2 Part 4 continued + Kiss radio ads + first 8 min of Kiss 2 Part 6
  • Part 9 = Kiss 2 Part 6 continued + Kiss 5 Part 3 (skipping the section already used in Part 3 of this 12-hour mix)
  • Part 10 = last 17 min of Kiss 5 Part 3 + Kiss 1 Part 3
  • Part 11 = last 17 min of Kiss 1 Part 3 + Kiss 1 Part 2
  • Part 12 = Kiss 1 Part 2 (ends at Knife Slits Water) + snippet of Kiss 3 Part 2 (Unknown Tracks, Yashar, Falling, I Was Glad) + first 5 min of Kiss 2 Part 1
  • Part 13 = Kiss 2 Part 1 continued + first 6 min of Kiss 2 Part 5
  • Part 14 = Kiss 2 Part 5 continued + first 5 min of Kiss 2 Part 2
  • Part 15 = Kiss 2 Part 2 continued + first 9 min of Kiss 2 Part 3 + excerpt from Kiss 5 Part 1
  • Part 16 = Kiss 5 Part 1 continued + section I can't ID (contains Axis - 13th Floor)
  • Part 17 = continuing from Part 16, more parts I can't ID! Enters a run of songs from the 1993 Essential Mix (Zen Garden, Breakout, Soupdragon) that eventually segues into different tracks - including Eggshell and Cerebral - followed by the first 4:30 min of Kiss 6 Part 2
  • Part 18 = Kiss 6 Part 2 continued + Kiss 5 Part 2 (Mecca of Space, Source A2, Unknown Track)
  • Part 19 = second new section of FSOL tracks: Vertical Pig Environ >> 13th Century Kitichi >> Arizona >> Swab >> Mountain Goat >> Cascade >> Expander >> While Others Cry outro >> Central Industrial >> first 5 min of Kiss 4 Part 3
  • Part 20 = Kiss 4 Part 3 continued + Ephidrena
  • Part 21 = Ephidrena continued + further tracks I can't ID, don't sound like FSOL
  • Part 22 = Kiss 2 Part 5 (from Northern Lights onward) + Kiss 2 Part 2 (starting to repeat material now!)
  • Part 23 = Kiss 2 Part 2 continued + Kiss 2 Part 3 + Kiss 2 Part 4 (more repeats!)
So not only is it the only time we hear Swab in a transmission, but also Ephidrena, Spineless Jelly and Interstat as well! Additionally, Spineless Jelly has a different intro where the initial synth beeping is louder and longer, without fading in from the environment it has like on the Lifeforms album. I think that rules out the possibility that Kiss FM were just playing these tracks from the album - this is definitely FSOL playing those tracks.

This is fascinating. If I had to guess, I’d suggest that the Kiss sets released through The Pod Room aren’t 100% accurate - there’s definitely one section which is practically a direct copy of another, and two have the wrong dates - so it’s possible that these are sections that were broadcast but ended up getting missed on release. It’s also possible that they supplied more to Kiss than got broadcast.

If that’s the case then Interstat is another that can be knocked off the unbroadcast Lifeforms list.

I’ll have to do some listening and research.
