What are thoughts on it now that the dust has settled?

For me it has the several of the strongest tracks in the series to date but the segueways aren't anywhere near as cohesive as 2 or 4 in creating a consistent flow.

Oh, at first I read "What are your thoughts on 'dust has settled'?" It took a bit, but now I love that track! :)

Env5 is surely the best of the series imo, simply love how naturally all they did since 2000 blended into this amalgam of styles and moods and it is still clearly recognisable as an FSOL-recording. To me the album flows very consistently, though the tracks differ stylisticly more than they do like say on Env2. But unlike on Env3 where a track like Heartsickchord sticks out quite a bit, they mangaged to make this one flowing very well I think!

I'm somewhere between the two of you - I like it a lot, but I also don't think it flows quite as well as 2 and 4. I think it's the fact that it continually alternates between rhythmic track and short modern classical interlude, so it never quite seems to get going - compare it to 2 which starts with the classical ambience then builds up to beats, before slowly edging away again. In comparison, 5 occasionally gives the impression of not quite knowing what it wants to do. That said, I do really enjoy the album, and track-for-track I think it's probably the best of the series. Somatosensory, Point of Departure and Moments of Isolation are absolute masterpieces.

I have to say 4 is the strongest so far IMO.

I think 2 is still my favourite, then 5 and 4. I do really like 5 a lot though and am looking forward to what comes next :)

Pandemonium wrote:Environments 1 is actually named Environments.
Environments 2 is actually named Environments II (in Roman number).
Environments 3 is actually named Environments 3 (with a normal number).
Environments 4 is actually named Environments 4 (with 4 made as a degree number).
Environments 5 is actually named Environment Five (with Five written with letters instead of a number).

- So the only thing that still jumps out is Environment singular instead of plural. This is probably because the previous 4 volumes were albums made of Environments from different eras, and Environment Five is a single environment of new material from 2014.
Predicting E6 to be titled 'Environmental ......' (with 6 dots) ;)

I can see the 6 dots thing :)

But 'Environmentz 6ix' - only kids born post-2000 write like that :D

Seems like I've got my wish. I've noticed the next few albums I have pre-ordered are out on July 17th and August 7th, both are Fridays :)

Yeah, there's a unified international release day now, which is on a Friday.

Environment Five is my favourite, and consistently so nearly a year on. Musically it is a grandee I feel.

Followed in order by: Environments 3, Environments 2, Environments 4 and Environments
