Identify the instrument.

Post by The Haze »

Hi guys, not been on here for ages due to computer problems. Hope everyone's well.

Can anyone tell me what instrument this is at around the 3.20 mark. Sounds kind of celtic. It's been bugging me, I think I also heard the same instrument on one of tangerine dream's earlier works.

Yes, it's some sort of pipe instrument like that. I've often wondered where that particular sample came from, it's really beautiful. That mid-section of ISDN is some of the most haunting music they've ever made.

Definitely some sort of bagpipe - probably Scottish, I think they're most recognizable to the world.
Also other kind are the south-eastern bagpipes called Gaidas.

they probably sampled it from some local/domestic folklore vinyl or something like that :)
You're doin' too much, do less.
