Also puts timing into perspective - a track finished in 2006 didn't come out until 2010 on Environments 3.

Yeah, it seems a common practice for FSOL to sit on the new tracks for years,
they sometimes tweak / enhance them, and sometimes they just come out just as they were...

Well, I'm wondering if that link will still work when I change the title of the topic for the 100th time :) - it usually doesn't...

It should do, the title is just an alias to a table in a database. The page linked actually points to the catchy url of - http://www.ilovecubus.co.uk/fsolboard/v ... ?f=2&t=162

A flash-back / update to Kiss Test 1 here:

http://www.ilovecubus.co.uk/fsolboard/v ... 3823#p3823

- it's properly deconstructed now, with fixed timings, found 5-6 new tracks, and the amount of new unknown ones :P

HIGHLIGHTS:

- This mix should be subtitled "FSOL present the Italian underground techno/trance/house scene to the UK" because of all the rare Italian tracks that appear here.

- The National Anthem of the South African Republic is found in the mix - twice!

- The megamix of Who's The Bad Man / Smells Like Teen Spirit / The Naked and The Dub is totally Crazy - I have a mental image in my head where Gaz jumps around the studio while this mix plays, and Brian is just sitting on the mixer shaking his head real hard!

- Part 4 @ 8:23 you can hear the flutes (slowed down, or maybe the original source for the sample) that they used in Hallucination, and also the end of Glass and Yage (in Dead Cities) - how about that for a mindfuck!

- Part 4 @ 23:08 I just want to say this piece of music is epic minimal ambient and it sounds great, but PLEASE check out the web-site of this guy (today, in 2014) ( http://www.aeoliah.com/about_aeoliah.html ) and tell me if you hadn't been teleported into 1997 internet... priceless...

- The Black Dog mix is so weird/crazy that it's stupid! :)

That Nirvana section is the Leftfield mix, right? Don't think FSOL made that.

I remember first hearing the Yage flute when I got the bootleg mix years ago, quite a moment. But the sample was recorded in 1983, so not surprising. It features throughout Yage actually, often pitched up an octave.

Yes it's Leftfield, that's why I'm even more sure Gaz jumped around on that one, not having to work on the mix at that point :)

- About the Yage flute - from the Dead Cities cover:
Moroccan flute by Yage recorded at sordid accommodation, London, 1989. 'Jane Jane' sourced from Shrine by Riz Maslen, 1983.
- I don't quite get it, were the flutes recorded in 1983 or 1989? And what is 'Jane Jane'?

Ah, got those mixed up, sorry. The flute was 1989.
The 'Jane Jane' sample starts around 6.10

Update to Kiss Test 2 here:

http://www.ilovecubus.co.uk/fsolboard/v ... 3847#p3847

Nothing that much new here, what surprised me most is how I missed the In Mind & Pod Room environments in the mix.
Also, the The Sabres of Paradise - Still Fighting (Demo Mix)...

Updated my tracklists.

Been meaning to ask: why no video reviews? Lifeforms, Far-out Son and Teachings are all as legit as the audio releases, surely?

I don't know....
I mentioned Lifeforms and the Far-Out VHS, which had audio version too...

Not there are tons of FSOL official videos out there :)

I spoke my mind about the videos, somewhere in the reviews...
in short - I think they know their music skills are very much ahead of their video skills, so they stick to what they do best.
All of their videos (well OK there are exceptions, always) look dated today, and almost nothing of their music sounds dated today...

Ah, I just didn't see them mentioned in the index then. :)

I only mention as I'm updated the discography with some bits from your recent updates, and was looking for an image for the Teachings video... for a long time it was quite a legendary entry in the band's history so I was surprised not to see it reviewed.

The Teachings video isn't reviewed, probably the only one...

hmm... maybe I'll squeeze it in somewhere in the 1997 posts...

EDIT: as I took a quick look - I don't seem to have a picture of the 1997 Teachings VHS.
