Releases for this year are 'World is Full of Plankton', 'Accelerator', and 'We Have Explosive'. The World is Full of Plankton is one of my favourite AA tracks and I think I read somewhere that an expanded We Have Explosive EP was coming.

Aha, been waiting for the announcement. Yes, WHE is the latest in the re-recorded EPs. Don’t know about the tracklist but I’d imagine we’ll get at least one previously releases track - Exploded Funk or Abandoned Housing Blocks of Prypiat - alongside a bunch of new tracks. I’d be surprised if we didn’t get an expanded CD version at the end of June.

Plankton is interesting - it’s my favourite Alice track so I’m glad it’s getting some more exposure. The band got the rights to the album back last year so a reissue has been on the cards - wouldn’t be surprised if this is a 2CD Otherness style set, although nothing has been confirmed there.

Accelerator 2LP has me intrigued. Given that it’s mixed as two gapless sides, I’d be surprised if it was done as the main album over two LPs. Maybe it comes packaged with some PNG remixes or something. I shall investigate.

I'm still baffled that they've not touched any of the scrapped singles (Eggshell, Slider and Glass).

I'm quite excited about this because, although I've never been the biggest fan of WHE, I do like how My Kingdom and Yage have taken aspects of the tracks that feel far less typically Dead Citiesy and run with them, shining a totally different light on those sessions. Given that the original WHE EP was tonally quite different to DC, I'm really curious to see where this will head.

Update: WHE will be 11 tracks. Plankton has All is Harvest and The Emptiness of Nothingness on the b-side.

I wonder if we'll get a full version of the live extract we got on EBS 0.5, and the '2'' tape reels' version we got a snippet of on EBS 1?

My hope is for both of them, especially the latter!

Now you mention it, the EP was almost a bit ISDN-y in parts.

But, 11 tracks for this one! They really know how to twist the nostalgia knife :D

I hadn't listened to the EP version of WHE for years until last night and forgot the Pt 1 is quite different from the album version. I didn't realize that the ending became part of 'Accompaniment For Melodious Expression' on Env 3. The remix EP is probably the only release by FSOL that I haven't listened to so time to see if that hold up. Lot's of Leon Mar on both versions, is he still making music?

Super pumped for Plankton, it took a re-run of a Top Gear episode for me to realize how good that track was as somehow it had been deleted from my CD rip of Alice so I wasn't listening to the full album.

Yeah, that WHE outro has stuff from the 1996 ISDN transmissions which also ended up on Env 3, it's quite a different take on the whole Dead Cities sound... generally more organic and less harshly urban sounding. The funk in part 3 really feels like the start of the journey towards The Isness.

Leon Mar did an Arcon 2 remix of a Humanoid track a couple of years ago, it appeared on YouTube but hadn't been properly released. I believe he designed the updated spike model seen on recent artwork.

Part 3 was the stand out part in my opinion. Listened to the remix EP and I can't hear the difference between the 7" Edit and the Oil Funk Remix. Not their finest moment but probably the reason why WHE was their highest charting single in the UK. Anyway, bring on RSD 2021!

01. We Have Explosive 2021
02. Implosive
03. Abandoned Housing Blocks Of Prypiat
04. Vaporise
05. Detonation
06. Herd Killing (2021)
07. Stasis Field
08. Waiting Your Return
09. Mib1
10. Exploding
11. Exotype

Accelerator is just the same album split over four sides, so basically an audiophile version. Given that the sides are meant to be played gaplessly, I'm going to file this version under "pointless".

I'm absolutely terrible at track names at the best of times, let alone with the insane amount of content FSOL have brought out over the last couple of decades, but are have any of those tracks (aside from 01 & 06 which'll be reversions) been on any of the the archive/EBS material already ?

Abandoned Housing Blocks of Prypiat was an Archive 7 bonus and ended up on Life in Moments. None of the others are familiar.

Can confirm there’ll be an expanded CD & digital version a couple of weeks after.
