Re: First FSOL track you heard

It was PNG for me the year it came out. My friend bought Cascade and then Accelerator in 1993 and the first ISDN vinyl when it came out. I got Lifeforms and the video when they were released and my friend had blagged a promo poster for it which he had in his room.

Re: New-old Aphex tracks

I got a zip file back in January with 101 tracks in it but I've only just got around to listening to it. So far most of it hasn't been great, but I am sure there will be the odd good one in there eventually.

I would strongly recommend the Cascade, Lifeforms, My Kingdom and We Have Explosive EPs, as they are pretty much mini-albums, rather than just remix collections.
Essential purchases. Some of my favourite FSOL stuff is on the singles.

Re: Would you / should you change anything in the digital fi

fsol's a bit of an exception for me. with the exception of the tracks cascade / lifeforms / we have explosive / smokin japanese babe / my kingdom (no idea why these ones stuck out) i don't think i could name any other tracks from the LPs.. although I could sing pretty much every note and recreate e...

Re: Would you / should you change anything in the digital fi

I don't even know the names of half the track I listen to in the world of electronic music. I was listening to ISDN yesterday and thought to myself that I really like this track, but no had idea what it was called. I must have listened to ISDN 20 times (or more, I have no idea) and I still don't kno...

Re: Weller / Amorphous tracks

I'm not fussed about the White Sky track, nothing wrong with it, just not for me, but the open high hat sounds just like one from the Alesis HR16B which disappoints me for some reason.

Holland 1994 transmission

I couldn't see this elsewhere on the board, but it may be a re-post. :D

'He laughed himself...' and 'Centipede' are two other favourites of mine and yes 'Crow...' is a great track.

Re: Yage - The Woodlands of Old

I love the opening track and there some really good tracks throughout the album. I've not sat and listened to it all recently, but it used to be on shuffle with a number of other FSOL archives albums and it fits in well with their other stuff.

Do you think 'Viewed from Below' has a sample of this (not this video, but the instrument)

Re: Mixing/Mastering

I would start with drums peaking the main output around -18dBFS or so. Think of the main mixbus as a glass and the sound as water; you can only fill the glass so far before it is full to the brim, so keep levels low and aim for the whole mix peaking at less than -3dBFS, ideally around -6 to -8.

Re: Mixing/Mastering

I've started to upload the track I'm working on onto my phone (my mp3 player) and then whilst walking outside put on that track, you usually notice things in the mix that you were totally blind to when you were mixing and composing at the same time. I upload to Dropbox and listen back via the app o...
